*MADNESS IN THE STREETS!- RIOTS ACROSS PORTLAND LEAD TO FIRE BEING SET INSIDE POLICE UNION BUILDING:

Riots in Portland continued Saturday evening, with one leading to a fire being set inside a police union building and another continuing to target the federal courthouse. Portland has seen over 50 days of protests and rioting, and Saturday proved to be no different. Daily Caller reporters were at the scene where rioters squared off with officers after tearing down fencing and using it to barricade the federal courthouse. Meanwhile, another riot in the city led to the bureau’s union headquarters being broken into and briefly lit on fire, according to police. Outside of the Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse, hundreds gathered and immediately began removing fencing surrounding the park and courthouse that had been erected by officers. Some rioters barricaded the building and began to taunt officers by banging on the walls and yelling for them to come outside. Small fights broke out between those who wanted to continue tearing down fencing and a small group trying to prevent further destruction.

*DISGRACED ATTORNEY, MICHAEL AVENATTI, IS BROKE & CAN’T AFFORD LEGAL FEES:

Michael Avenatti is broke and can’t pay his legal fees, the California attorney who has represented the discredited lawyer for more than a year claims. Dean Steward filed a motion in federal court Saturday detailing Avenatti’s financial woes and is now asking for taxpayer help to cover his costs.  “The bottom line is that Mr. Avenatti has run out of funds, and faces a complex trial lasting as long as six weeks,” Steward wrote in a filing to the federal judge overseeing one of Avenatti’s three ongoing criminal cases. This isn’t the first time Avenatti has run into legal or money issues in the case. For a short period last year, Avenatti was represented by lawyers in the federal public defender’s office after his retained counsel departed. It was then that Steward — whom Avenatti called “incredibly well-qualified” — entered the case.

“[B]ut the retainer has long since run out and defendant does not have funds to pay counsel,” Steward says. He’s proposing to stay on as Avenatti’s lawyer and get paid under terms of existing rules for indigent clients. “Such an arrangement would save considerable taxpayer funds, over starting fresh with new … counsel.” A detailing of Avenatti’s financial straits was also filed with the court — but under seal from public view and for now from prosecutors as well. It wasn’t immediately clear when Judge James Selna in Los Angeles would rule on the matter.

*HUNGER GAMES – MAN ACCUSED OF PUNCHING NYPD CHIEF, COPS ON BROOKLYN BRIDGE, RELEASED WITHOUT BAIL:

A violent attack on several members of the NYPD, including police chief Terence Monahan, left one officer with broken bones in his face. In less than a day, police identified and arrested two men suspected of assaulting the officer and the chief. The man who is charged with hitting the chief was released without bail. “Quran Campbell, 25, is accused of socking the highest-ranking uniformed cop several times in the face as Monahan tried to arrest him after Campbell had allegedly punched another NYPD officer and lieutenant near the Manhattan approach to the bridge. Campbell was arraigned on assault charges in Manhattan criminal court and was granted supervised release.” — NYPost.com. Ever since Mayor De Blasio’s removal of bail for most arrests, crime has been on the rise in NYC. And since the riots and protests following the George Floyd killing, crime — especially violent crime — has greatly increased. Allowing criminals who are willing to attack police to be back on the street is likely to embolden other, similarly-minded individuals.

*PEOPLE WHO LIKE EMBARRASSING OR ANGERING OTHERS FIND SOCIAL MEDIA MORE ADDICTIVE:

Large swaths of the internet are a cesspool. Before today, this led to glum assessments about the state of humanity. But a new study out of Michigan State University and California State University at Fullerton, says not so fast: The heaviest users of social media have personalities that enjoy angering and embarrassing others. This is good news! It means that humanity, on the whole, might suck far less than people on the internet. A fascinating study of 472 university students tracked their usage on two top platforms for 18-to-24-year old: Snapchat (2.64 hours per day) and Facebook (2.28 hours per day).

Researchers found that users displaying addictive behavior were also more likely to be motivated to be cruel and callous and to use others for personal gain. “Our results demonstrate that individuals who have a greater preference for these types of rewards display greater problematic use of both platforms,” write the researchers, who note that these traits are also associated with narcissism and psychopathy and have previously been correlated with addictive internet use. They write that social media sites unwittingly “cater to people who seek rewards from being cruel, such as through cyberbullying or various aggressive online behaviors.” The researchers hope that their study will help clinicians treat addicted patients by better understanding the social rewards that may be driving them. The same study also found users logging longer hours with more addictive behaviors on Snapchat, but more frequently attempting to quit Facebook.

* ‘WISHING ME DEATH’: SYRACUSE STUDENT DISHES ON THREATS, DISCRIMINATION OVER HER CONSERVATIVE VIEWS:

Adrianna San Marco, a Syracuse University student in New York opened up about the bias and threats she says she experiences on campus for her conservative views. “I’ve gotten it mostly on Twitter and Instagram with people threatening to assault me, beat me up, I had someone say they hope I get shot in the head, other people wishing me death, wishing that I burn in Hell,” said San Marco. “Most of these are coming from Syracuse University students.” She said that she has reported the death threats to police and had sent a letter to administrators in June to bring attention to what has been happening to her and other conservative students on campus, as she says this isn’t an isolated incident. San Marco says officials never responded to her letter, which is why she won’t return in the fall.

*EXAMINER – WHAT’S UP by Sarah Garcia:

*** NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio is publicly blaming the police unions for the hatred and violence taking place in New York City. He’s not blaming the release of prisoners, unequal enforcement of laws and rights (by his order), or the allowance and encouragement of riots. He’s not blaming the people who are violently attacking random people on the street or even police officers. No. He blames the police that he’s handicapped, consistently, from the beginning of the riots. Amidst videos of police getting brutally attacked, he’s consistently attacked the police. “The Sergeants Benevolent Association has only practiced division. They foment hatred. … They do not try to help us move forward,” de Blasio said during a press conference Thursday. “They don’t try to create anything good. I have no respect for the leadership of the SBA.

It appears that the networks are beginning to think that their, er, outspoken reality stars are more of liability than an asset. A a number of networks had hired a PI to probe their own talent’s social-media feeds for signs of racism, we’re now told that networks are offering stars “good-behavior bonuses” in their contracts. Since reality TV seems to rely almost entirely on bad behavior for its entertainment value, we asked our source why networks would want to cultivate a bunch of goody-two-shoes. “They’re talking about ‘behaving well,’ as in not using racial slurs on social media and not getting into fights with castmates. It’s not a high bar.”

*EXAMINER – HISTORY: NIKOLA TESLA (1856)

Nikola Tesla was an inventor and engineer known for his revolutionary contributions to the fields of electricity and magnetism. His inventions made possible the production of alternating-current electric power, and his Tesla coil is still used in radio technology. In 1912, he refused a Nobel Prize because he felt his co-recipient, Thomas Edison, was undeserving of the honor. He spent his final years caring for pigeons.

*WOKE ALERT!-WASHINGTON POST EDITOR SAYS TEXAS RANGERS’ ‘VIOLENT & RACIST’ NAME ‘MUST GO’:

A Washington Post editor said Monday that the Texas Rangers team name “must go.” On the same day that the National Football League’s Washington Redskins announced it would do away with its 93-year-old team name, Global Opinions editor Karen Attiah said that the Major League Baseball team must deal with “the violent and racist implications of its name.” “To know the full history of the Texas Rangers is to understand that the team’s name is not so far off from being called the Texas Klansmen,” Attiah wrote in an op-ed for the liberal newspaper. Attiah, who grew up in Dallas, reminisced about going to Rangers games with her father as a child, but said at the time she didn’t know the Rangers “were a cruel, racist force when it came to the nonwhites who inhabited the beautiful and untamed Texas territory.” The Texas Rangers were unofficially created by Stephen F. Austin in 1823 as a statewide investigative law enforcement agency, headquartered in the capital of Austin. The Rangers stopped the assassination of President William Howard Taft and pursued such outlaws as Bonnie and Clyde. More than 120 have died in the line of duty.

*FUN CITY – NEW YORK CITY’S ARROGANT RATS KEEP ATTACKING DINERS WHO’VE BEEN FORCED OUTSIDE BY PANDEMIC:

New Yorkers are rapidly discovering why European-style outdoor dining isn’t really a thing there. According to a report from NBC New York, diners who have been forced outside by pandemic restrictions keep getting attacked by the city’s greedy rats. Giacomo Romano, who owns an Italian restaurant in SoHo, told the network: “We have this big restriction of only outdoor seating… Last night, a customer had a baby rat running on his shoe and I let you just imagine his reaction.” Romano said he’s written to city leaders begging them to do something about the rodents if his customers are going to be eating outside for the foreseeable future. “If they know every month they need an extermination—do it,” said the restaurateur. NBC New York asked the city if it plans to do anything to tackle the rats, but reports that it has, so far, heard nothing back.

*SLEEPY AMERICA: 60% OF ADULTS SAY THEY’RE MORE TIRED THAN EVER BEFORE:

The coronavirus pandemic has many Americans saying they’re more tired than they’ve ever been before. According to a new survey, six in 10 Americans say their sleep routine during quarantine has them feeling more exhausted than they’ve ever felt in their life! The poll of 2,000 adults, commissioned by Leesa Sleep, finds nearly 70 percent agree their sleeping habits have become quite inconsistent. Another 63 percent think their sleep schedules might be permanently ruined by the pandemic. Working remotely has its benefits, like sleeping in later, but it may be creating some bad habits too. Forty-four percent say they stay up later since they don’t have to commute to work. Nearly half of respondents admit they get out of bed only 10 minutes before their remote workday starts. It’s no wonder so many people are tired. Many are staying up late to binge watch their favorite TV shows. Researchers report 67 percent of Americans are staying up until the early hours of the morning to sneak in a few more episodes each night. The poll also finds Americans are also to getting an average of two naps per week during their workdays.

The majority of parents in the poll say it’s difficult to maintain their child’s sleep schedule. Only 35 percent report having an easier time putting their kids to bed during quarantine. Kids may be just as tired as their parents, it seems. Around half of American couples report they’re sleeping in separate rooms more frequently than usual, but a third of respondents add they’re having more sex during the lockdown. “Sleep is as important to your overall health and wellness as diet, exercise and managing stress. Many Americans struggle to get a good night’s sleep, and a good mattress is essential,” says Leesa CMO Jim Geikie in a statement.

*JESUS H. CASH! – THE CATHOLIC CHURCH RAKED IN $1.4 BILLION IN CORONAVIRUS LOANS:

The Catholic Church raked in at least $1.4 billion in taxpayer-backed loans meant to help small businesses survive the coronavirus pandemic, a new report says. Catholic dioceses, parishes, schools and other entities made extensive use of a loophole in the feds’ Paycheck Protection Program to snag at least 3,500 forgivable loans as the pandemic scuttled worship services across the country, an Associated Press review found. Some $200 million went to roughly 40 dioceses that have paid out hundreds of millions of dollars to victims of sexual abuse in recent years — including the Archdiocese of New York, which got at least $28 million for its executive offices while its iconic St. Patrick’s Cathedral received at least $1 million, according to the Friday report.

The so-called PPP loans were generally limited to businesses and nonprofits with fewer than 500 employees. But Catholic officials helped lobby the Trump administration to exempt religious groups from that rule, which would have disqualified many dioceses, the AP reported. Data released this week indicate Catholic institutions may have bagged as much as $3.5 billion in forgivable loans that helped them retain at least 407,900 jobs — placing the church among the program’s largest beneficiaries, the news service found.

*SCIENTIST HAVE  CALCULATED HOW MANY HOT DOGS A PERSON CAN EAT AT ONCE:

Over the Fourth of July weekend, with streams of sweat pouring down his face, Joey Chestnut broke his own world record for hot dog eating, by downing 75 hot dogs (with buns) in 10 minutes at the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. It was his 13th win at the annual contest. And Miki Sudo set a women’s record, 48.5 hot dogs, to grab her seventh straight Nathan’s win. Because of the coronavirus crisis, the event was held virtually this year, and Dr. James Smoliga was glued to his screen, rooting for new records.

For the past few months, Dr. Smoliga, a veterinarian and exercise scientist, had been working on a mathematical analysis of the maximum number of hot dogs that a human could theoretically consume in 10 minutes. “The answer is 83,” said Dr. Smoliga, a professor at High Point University in North Carolina. He has now published the full analysis, which calculated this number based on 39 years of historical data from the Nathan’s contest, as well as on mathematical models of human performance that consider the potential for extreme athletic feats.

Before Billie Eilish had fan girls of her own, she was one herself. On Tuesday, the 18-year-old’s mother Maggie Baird was a guest on her daughter’s Apple Music show, “me & dad radio,” a program where the starlet and her father Patrick O’Connell share music and stories from their illustrious lives. There, she revealed her daughter’s scary obsession with Justin Bieber, now 26 — so much so that she and O’Connell considered putting their then-12-year-old daughter in therapy.

The ban will take effect immediately and extend through the end of February of 2021. However, protests and demonstrations — like ones for Black Lives Matter — are, you guessed it, exempt.

WELCOME TO EXPERT CLICK!

Mitchell P. Davis, member of the Circumnavigator’s Club — Shanghai
Mitchell P. Davis, editor from ExpertClick, is known as the matchmaker between people who want to be interviewed and the media members who need to talk to someone knowledgeable about today’s issues. This symbiotic relationship came into existence when Davis started the Yearbook of Experts, Authorities, and Spokespersons in 1984. The New York Times called it: “Dial-an-Expert” Since then, the hundreds of thousands of news releases issued via his Broadcast Interview Source and News Release Wire have garnered interviews in international, national, and local print and electronic outlets.
Due to his longevity in the business and his strategic location in Washington, DC, Davis has access to the journalists who want to talk to the people who can answer important questions. Journalists and experts know that Davis is highly selective in who’s included in his directory so both parties know the other has “skin in the game” Neither has time to waste trying to determine the validity of each other’s credentials.

Paul Dickson has been a member since 1996 and when he published his book, Hidden Language of Baseball—How Signs and Sign-Stealing Have Influenced the Course of Our National Pastime, he issued a release through Davis’s ExpertClick.com site and he was interviewed on Business Week, AP, Fox News, and Bloomberg Radio.

Shortly after completing Georgetown University business school in 1982, Davis was hired by a company that was destined to cease business. They guaranteed interviews which attracted clients who otherwise would never warrant an interview and the talk radio market was just too new. In the meantime, Davis has never guaranteed an interview and the talking head business has grown exponentially, with great thanks to Mitch Davis.

*NIGHTMARE IN NEW YORK:
HOW COVID-19, BLM PROTESTS, AND A LIBERAL MAYOR ARE TURNING THE CITY INTO A NO-GO ZONE AS MURDERS SKYROCKET, SHOPS ARE LOOTED, AND 500,000 MIDDLE-CLASS RESIDENTS FLEE:

Two bullet-ridden bodies lay sprawled on bloodstained concrete steps. Alongside, relatives of the victims are wailing and collapse to the ground. In another part of the city, a gang of youths use spray paint to disable security cameras before robbing a corner store. Later, video footage captures police officers sitting helplessly in their patrol car as a baying crowd hurls glass bottles at them. This is lawless New York – a city that was once America’s glittering crown jewel but which risks descending into mob rule. Murder figures have skyrocketed and a combination of the coronavirus pandemic, Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests and weak political leadership is in danger of achieving what Osama Bin Laden never could: bringing the Big Apple to its knees.

Last weekend Chioke Thompson, 23, and his friend Stephanie Perkins, 39, had been gunned down on the steps of Chioke’s Brooklyn home. His schoolteacher mum Sophia wept as she said: ‘Even as he died, he was trying to shield her with his body. It makes no sense. Neither of them did anything wrong.’ With the gunman still on the loose and their families insisting neither victim had any links to drugs or gangs, the pair appear to be the latest grim statistics in a crimewave sweeping the city. Figures released by the NYPD showed that for the first six months of 2020 there were 176 murders, a 23 percent increase on the same period last year. Looting continues in Manhattan amid protests over the death of George Floyd. According to figures released by the New York Police Department, for the first six months of this year, there were 176 murders, an increase of 23 per cent on the 143 killed during the same period last year.

The number of shooting victims has gone up 51 per cent to 616 this year. In June alone, there were 250 shootings compared to 97 in the same month last year. Month-on-month, burglaries are up 119 per cent and car thefts up 48 per cent. Many blame New York’s liberal mayor, Bill de Blasio, who has slashed police funding by $1 billion, ended the NYPD’s controversial ‘stop-and-frisk’ policy (which allowed police to stop and search anyone solely on the basis of ‘reasonable suspicion’) and who last week vowed to paint a huge Black Lives Matter sign outside President Trump’s flagship Trump Tower. De Blasio has also introduced criminal justice reforms, including changes to bail for dozens of offences, which has meant violent criminals released on to the streets.

*AFGHAN TRANSLATOR WHO SAVED U.S SOLDIERS FINALLY CELEBRATES 4TH OF JULY AS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN:

An Afghan translator who spent 9 years risking his life to assist U.S. forces in Afghanistan has just celebrated his first Fourth of July as a U.S. citizen. Although his duties as a translator never required it, Janis Shinwari saved the lives of several U.S. soldiers—and one of them decided to return the favor, by offering to bring Janis and his family to the U.S. If he would have stayed in Afghanistan, the translator “wouldn’t be alive today,” he told CNN Heroes in 2018. Janis was aiding U.S. forces over a decade ago because he wanted his country liberated from the terror of Taliban rule. Although he knew he was risking his life, he did what he thought was right for his country. In 2008, Capt. Matt Zeller was about to die during a battle with Taliban forces, until a man who identified himself as a U.S. translator dragged him out of harm’s way. They may not have known each other before that moment, but the experience forged an unshakable bond.  “Since that time, we become even closer than brothers,” Janis said. With the Taliban in pursuit of Janis, Matt began working furiously to get him a visa so he could leave the country.

Initially, they expected the process to only take a couple of months, but it actually took several years. Thanks to Matt’s persistence gathering signatures on a petition, and meeting with several members of Congress, Janis and his family fled to the U.S. in 2013. Once he arrived, Matt helped him with every aspect of his new life in America—including raising $35,000 with a GoFundMe campaign. Janis finally became eligible for citizenship this year and, on June 30, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Ken Cuccinelli administered the oath of allegiance to Janis and his wife, officially making them U.S. citizens—just in time to celebrate their new country’s Independence Day. During the ceremony, Janis was thanked for his brave service and saving the lives of 5 Americans.

*THE WOKE MOB COMES FOR A FEDERAL JUDGE:

Our Founders sought to protect federal judges from the whims of the mob by granting them life tenure, and making them removable only through impeachment by the House and conviction by the Senate. But the mob has its ways of exacting retribution even so. The latest victim is Judge Cormac J. Carney of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, which includes Los Angeles. His crime? Referring to the court’s clerk, Kiry Gray, as “street-smart.” Gray is a 35-year employee of the court. In 2015, she became the first black woman to serve as a clerk of court in the Ninth Circuit, which covers the western part of the United States, including California. As clerk, she is in charge of the day-to-day administration and operations of the court. Carney has been a federal judge in the nation’s largest federal court since 2003.

On June 1, he began a term as chief judge of the court, a position with substantial management and oversight responsibilities for the entire court, including the district judges, the magistrate judges, the clerk’s office, and probation. The position requires a close working relationship with the clerk. In a webinar that took place eight days after he assumed his duties as chief judge, Carney spoke to members of the California bar about how he was adjusting to his new role. “Fortunately for me,” he reportedly said, “we have just a fabulous clerk of the court in Kiry Gray. She’s so street-smart and really knows her job.” According to the L.A. Times, several court staffers and attorneys were upset by the remark, which they interpreted as having a “derogatory and racially insensitive layer.”

Upon learning that some people were calling for his removal, Carney says he spoke with Gray and expressed frustration that “the people criticizing me were equating my well-intended use of the term ‘street-smart’ with the reprehensible conduct of a police officer putting his knee on a person’s neck.” On Friday, he publicly apologized and announced that he would be stepping down as chief judge, though he will remain a judge on the court.

*CLOSE THE LID! FLUSHING TOILETS SPREADS CORONAVIRUS:

A large cloud of virus-laden droplets can be released high into the air when you flush a toilet — and it can hang around long enough to be inhaled by others, a new study says. The new coronavirus that causes COVID-19 can be found in the feces of infected people, and this finding suggests it could be transmitted through the use of toilets, according to the authors. The study was published June 16 in the journal Physics of Fluids. “One can foresee that the velocity [of upward-flowing aerosol particles] will be even higher when a toilet is used frequently, such as in the case of a family toilet during a busy time or a public toilet serving a densely populated area,” study co-author Ji-Xiang Wang, of Yangzhou University in China, said in a journal news release.

As the NBA prepares to play an abbreviated season, the league has also taken steps to proclaim it is aligned with the current social justice movement by painting “Black Lives Matter” on the courts. Additionally, the players and the teams have agreed to permit players to sport approved words and phrases on their uniforms during the first four games.

The approved list, released over the weekend, includes ‘Anti-Racist’, ‘Ally’, ‘Say Her Name’, ‘I Can’t Breath’, ‘Enough’, ‘Black Lives matter’, and ‘How many More’. Does anyone remember a time when professional sports were all about your team winning or losing the game and not infused with politics? Who would have thought just five years ago that the National Anthem would become one of the most controversial things in our country? And now it’s spreading everywhere.

Two new books examine Putin’s vendetta against the West, particularly the United States, and search for answers. Of special interest is his time in the Soviet KGB, disbanded almost 30 years ago when the USSR ceased to exist. But a close look at the books, and at the record, suggests that’s misleading. Much more important to Putin and his cronies than the ideological crusade of the KGB is their desire to share in the pillaged wealth of post-Soviet Russia, and their hatred of anyone who would hold them accountable.
