*CALIFORNIA LOOTERS INVADE WILDFIRE ZONE, STEAL FIREFIGHTER’S WALLET, & DRAIN BANK ACCOUNT AS HE BATTLES BLAZE:

California wildfires, which have so far torched more than a million acres of land, including parts of the state’s historic redwood forest, have become a target for looters, and at least one firefighter had his bank account “drained” as he risked his life battling the historic blaze. “California’s ongoing historic wildfires have forced tens of thousands of people from their homes, and police said looters are taking advantage of the empty houses,” USA Today reported Monday.  “In one case, a looter took advantage of an unoccupied car. Santa Cruz County Sheriff Jim Hart on Sunday told reporters that a California firefighter’s marked vehicle was burglarized.”

The looters apparently entered the firefighter’s truck as he and his crew were fighting to control the Santa Cruz blaze sometime between Friday evening and Saturday morning. In a matter of hours, they’d taken his possessions and allegedly drained his bank account using a debit card, per the Santa Cruz sheriff’s office. “That’s the extent these people have gone,” CaliforniaDepartment of Forestry and Fire Protection Battalion Chief Mark Brunton said at a press conference. “Again, this is why we’ve asked for people to evacuate. The sheriff’s department has done a fantastic job in trying to wrangle this, but again, this is what we have as a result.” The Santa Cruz sheriff’s office did not comment extensively on the case except to say that an investigation had been opened, but the Santa Cruz County Sheriff Jim Hart did tell reporters that he “can’t imagine a bigger lowlife.”

*SAN FRANCISCO’S COPS AREN’T WAITING AROUND TO BE “DEFUNDED”: THEY’RE LEAVING IN MASSES

Police in San Francisco aren’t waiting around for pandering politicians to “defund” the city’s police department, which has already seen a mass exodus of officers following the passage of a state law called Prop 47, a statewide criminal-justice law passed back in 2014. It appears the pace of officer exits is picking up this year, and what’s even more interesting: The acceleration started before the murder of George Floyd. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, 23 officers resigned during the first six months of the year, with many resigning even before Floyd’s murder. Most expect that another wave of resignations spurred by the protests and widespread anti-police sentiment in the deep blue state will spur even more officers to leave.

*RUSSIA: HOW DARE THE U.S. QUESTION OUR UNTESTED COVID VACCINE:

Russia has said that the U.S. is waging “information warfare” about its purported COVID-19 vaccine and has rejected international criticism of its speedy rollout of the inoculation, saying that it’s safe and that it works. Russia announced Tuesday that its vaccine, which Vladimir Putin said had been given to his daughter, had been approved by its health regulators. The news attracted widespread criticism as it has only undergone rapid Phase 1 and 2 clinical trials on a small number of people and no data from these has yet been published. However Kirill Dmitriev, the chief executive of Russia’s sovereign-wealth fund RDIF, which is backing the vaccine dubbed “Sputnik V” in a nod to the world’s first satellite that was launched by Russia in 1957 during the Cold War space race, told CNBC:

“It [the announcement] really divided the world into those countries that think it’s great news… and some of the U.S. media and some U.S. people who actually wage major information warfare on the Russian vaccine.” He added: “We were not expecting anything else, we are not trying to convince the U.S. Our point to the world is that we have this technology, it can be available in your country in November/December if that works with your regulator… (while) people who are very skeptical will not have this vaccine and we wish them good luck in developing theirs.” He conceded that Russia needed to share the data behind the vaccine, saying it was “valid criticism” that it had not yet done so and that it would “all be published in August.” Russia has the fourth highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the world, with over 900,000 cases as of Wednesday. Its official death toll stands at 15,600.

*JUSTICE? – ONE OF THE TWO MEN CONVICTED IN MURDER OF MICHAEL JORDAN’S FATHER IN 1993 IS GRANTED PAROLE AND WILL WALK FREE IN 2023:

Larry M. Demery, 45, was granted parole on Tuesday and will be freed on August 6, 2023, The N.C. Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission announced One of the two men convicted in the 1993 murder of Michael Jordan‘s father will be released from prison after serving 27 years of a life sentence, officials announced on Tuesday. Larry M. Demery, 45, is due to walk free on August 6, 2023, after he was granted parole by the North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission this week. Demery was sentenced to life in prison in 1996 after pleading guilty to first-degree murder and robbery charges in the fatal shooting of James Jordan Sr. Jordan Sr was shot dead in July 1993 as he slept in his parked Lexus on the side of Highway 74 in Robeson County, North Carolina. In a statement released on Tuesday, the Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission said Demery had been approved for a Mutual Agreement Parole Program (MAPP), a scholastic and vocational program for freed inmates.

*HONEY BETTER TREATMENT FOR COUGHS AND COLDS THAN ANTIBIOTICS:

Honey may be better than conventional treatments for coughs, blocked noses and sore throats, researchers have said. The substance is cheap, readily available, and has virtually no side-effects. Doctors can recommend it as a suitable alternative to antibiotics, which are often prescribed for such infections, even though they are not effective, scientists from the University of Oxford said. Upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) affect the nose, throat, voice box and the large air passages (bronchi) that lead from the windpipe to the lungs. There is evidence for honey being used in children, and it has long been used as a home remedy to treat coughs and colds. But the evidence for its effectiveness for a range of upper respiratory tract symptoms in adults has not been systematically reviewed.

*ATLANTIC WRITER JEMELE HILL COMPARES UNITED STATES TO NAZI GERMANY:

Atlantic writer Jemele Hill compared America to Nazi Germany Sunday, tweeting that those who believe the latter was worse are “wrong.” Hill cited the book “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents” by Isabel Wilkerson, which aims to explore how people’s lives and behaviors are influenced by “linking the caste systems of America, India, and Nazi Germany,” according to a Barnes and Noble description. Hill claimed that “if you were of the opinion that the United States wasn’t nearly as bad as Nazi Germany, how wrong you are.”

The sports writer’s tweet remains live as of the publication of this article, despite backlash from many. Editor-in-chief of Arc Digital Berny Belvedere tweeted that Hill’s comments are “breathtakingly irresponsible.” “How is anyone supposed to trust your judgment after this horror show of an opinion?”

*DOUBLE STANDARD TROPHY- CHICAGO MAYOR DEFENDS MAKING HER STREET A “PROTEST-FREE” ZONE:

The embattled streets of Chicago just got a little bit safer. Well, one street did. Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s. The mayor banned protests from her street because of “safety.” “‘I think that residents of this city, understanding the nature of the threats that we are receiving on a daily basis … understand that I have a right to make sure that my home is secure,’ the mayor told reporters Thursday” . Mayor Lightfoot (also known locally as “Mayor LOOTFOOT”) has once again shown the people of Chicago that her safety is more important than anyone else. This should not be a surprise. In the early days of the lockdown, the mayor was caught breaking the rules and visiting a hair salon. Her response to the inquiring media, “I have to look good. I’m on television all the time.” The mayors earn this weeks “Double Standard trophy.”

*SAQUON BARKLEY, NEW YORK GIANTS RUNNING BACK, AND OTHER NFL STARS TEAMING WITH NIKE FOR FREE VIRTUAL FOOTBALL TRAINING:

Athletes will now be able to get training tips from professional football players like Odell Beckham Jr, Saquon Barkley, and Christian McCaffrey to keep in condition during the coronavirus pandemic. Nike has partnered with the NFL to deliver a free, 11-Online interactive training platform launching Friday. The lessons will stream at 11onfootball.com and can be found on Nike ‘s Train Club application. The platform was built as a way for athletes who are trying to keep in shape from home during the coronavirus pandemic to create a virtual practice camp. All 32 NFL teams took part in the program which provides guidance from NFL players for all 11 football positions. Other stars include Cooper Kupp, Aaron Donald, George Kittle, Denzel Perryman, Taylor Rapp, and Deshaun Watson to provide training.

Barkley takes you through his footwork and ball protection exercises to help you become a better ball carrier in the running back portion. The center also offers emotional workouts conducted by Seattle Seahawks psychologist Michael Gervais, in addition to the positional preparation. Some of the other content features NFL announcer Nate Burleson going through one-on-one drills with a series of pushups and planks in it. If you’re a defensive lineman, Donald will give you his pass rushing secrets and ways in off season that he likes to practice. The NFL and Nike launched the 11-on initiative in 2019, and the launch on Friday is the first time that it will be available online and to everyone. The curriculum was created to help high school football and teach transferable life skills to student athletes.

Nike’s 11 Online gives you unprecedented access to your favorite athlete’s training routines virtually so you can improve wherever you are,” Carolina Panthers running back McCaffrey said. “While I was fortunate enough to attend the 11-On experience in-person, this digital training camp provides a similar experience in your home.” The world of declining high school athletics is shifting dramatically because of the pandemic, with many states being forced to make difficult decisions regarding the upcoming season. According to High School Football America, 17 states are pushing back regular seasons for the beginning of 2020 high school football and 16 states plus the Columbia District are switching their seasons to next year. Nike announced yet another investment in high school football in January. At Nathaniel Traz-Powell Stadium, home to seven Miami-Dade area high schools that regularly produce NFL-caliber teams, the sports apparel corporation has invested $2 million in the gridiron for the future.

*EXAMINER – BOOKS: BROKEN WINDOWS, BROKEN BUSINESS:

Once every decade a book comes along with an insight so penetrating, so powerful – and so simply, demonstrably true -that it instantly changes the way we think and do business. Such a book is Broken Windows, Broken Business, a breakthrough in management theory that can alter the destiny of countless companies striving to stay ahead of their competition. “In this vital work, the author offers compelling evidence that problems in business, large and small, typically stem from inattention to tiny details. Social psychologists and criminologists agree that if a window in a building is broken and left unrepaired, soon thereafter the rest of the windows will be broken – and the perception will build that crime in that neighborhood is out of control. The same principle applies to business.” “Drawing on real-world corporate examples, from JetBlue‘s decision to give fliers what they really want – leather seats, personal televisions, online ticketing – to Google’s customer-based strategy for breaking out of the pack of Internet search engines, to business-to-business firms’ successes and failures, the author proves again and again how constant vigilance and an obsession with detail can make or break a business or a brand.”

“With tips and advice on changing any business to one that dots its i’s, crosses its t’s, and attracts more clients, Broken Windows, Broken Business goes straight to the heart of what makes all enterprises successful – the little things that mean a lot.”

*LAWLESS WOODSTOCK- MURDER RATE SPIKES IN 20 MAJOR AMERICAN CITIES:

The homicide rate has spiked across 20 of America’s major cities, The New York Times reported Tuesday, citing a criminologist. The reported crime surge comes as the nation faces the coronavirus pandemic, ongoing protests and an upcoming presidential election. The murder rate in 20 major American cities increased an average of 37% from the end of May to the end of June, University of Missouri-St. Louis criminologist Richard Rosenfeld said, according to The New York Times. In 2019, the murder rate increased an average of 6% from May to June. New York has seen a 30% increase in the homicide rate this year, according to the report. New York City has seen a surge in violent crime over the past several months, including a 205% increase in shooting incidents between June 2 and June 15 compared to that same period last year. Burglary and grand larceny crimes were also higher in June 2020 compared to June 2019.   Police stand at the scene of a shooting which happened as Save Our Streets (S.O.S.) was holding a peace march in response to a surge in shootings in the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood in Brooklyn on July 16, 2020 in New York City. The march and shooting was held near the scene in Brooklyn where a one-year-old child, Davell Gardner Jr., was recently shot and killed. Davell was shot near a playground during a Sunday picnic when gunfire erupted. Two other adults were wounded in the evening shooting. New York City has witnessed a surge in gun violence over the past month with 9 people killed, including children, and 41 others wounded on the Fourth of July weekend alone. There were 6 killings in Kansas City over the weekend of August 7 to 9, bringing the total number of murders in the city this year to 122. At this time last year, there had been 90 homicides, according to The New York Times. Homicides doubled in May and June compared to those months the previous year. At the end of July, Kansas City had already reported about 490 nonfatal shootings – the same number as it did in all of last year.

*FAUCI: “NO REASON” AMERICANS CAN’T VOTE IN-PERSON AS LONG AS PRECAUTIONS ARE TAKEN:

Dr. Anthony Fauci, chief medical advisor for the Trump administration’s coronavirus task force, said this week that he sees “no reason” Americans should avoid voting in-person as long as social distancing guidelines are followed. “I think if carefully done, according to the guidelines, there’s no reason that I can see why that not be the case,” Fauci said of in-person voting . “If you go and wear a mask, if you observe the physical distancing, and don’t have a crowded situation, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to do that.” Fauci cited the social distancing guidance at some grocery stores that have placed an “X” every six feet or so where the checkout line forms, as well as signs directing customers to remain on their “X” until the person ahead of them has advanced. However, those who would be in danger if exposed to the coronavirus because of health issues are better off voting by mail, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director said.

*HOW CHILDREN’S SLEEP HABITS HAVE CHANGED IN THE PANDEMIC:

So how are you sleeping these days? Some children — and adolescents — may actually be getting more sleep, or better sleep, while others are struggling with disrupted routines, anxiety and electronics, sometimes all at the same time. And even for those who have settled into new schedules that leave them reasonably well rested, back-to-school season may mean a possibly problematic reset. Two sleep specialists, in Cincinnati and London, published an editorial, “Perils and promise for child and adolescent sleep and associated psychopathology during the Covid-19 pandemic,” at the end of May in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry. Stephen P. Becker and Alice M. Gregory discussed possible impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on children’s sleep, arguing that because of the importance of sleep for many aspects of children’s well-being, ranging from mental health to immunological well-being and disease resistance, it would be important to look closely at how sleep might be changing, for children and for adolescents, at whether those changes are problematic when children have to return to school, and at which factors are associated with better — and worse — sleep.
In a study published in late July in the Journal of Sleep Research, researchers looked at how 1,619 children in China were doing in terms of sleep. The children, ages 4, 5 and 6, were recruited from 11 preschools in the province of Guizhou, in the city of Zunyi, about 650 miles from Wuhan. Parents and caregivers completed a questionnaire about how the children were sleeping during their time “sheltering at home” in February, after the children had been confined at home for nearly a month. The reported sleep patterns were compared to a similar group in 2018. Dr. Zhijun Liu, an associate professor in the department of applied psychology at Zunyi Medical University who was the lead author on the study, said in an email that the expectation had been that the confinement would have a negative effect on children’s sleep: “Here in China, most families underwent days of confinement to cope with the pandemic, which means much less outdoor activities, less face-to-face interpersonal communications and even less sunlight for some of them than usual.” Both parents and children spent more time on electronic devices and less time moving around. He continued, “Living in a limited room is usually no good for one’s mood either.”

The results of the study showed that kids at home in the pandemic were going to sleep later — 57 minutes later, on average, than 2018 weekday bedtimes, and 30 minutes later than weekends — and they were also waking up later, and the differences in wake-up times were larger: They were waking an hour and 52 minutes later than on weekdays in 2018, and an hour later than on weekends. Tellingly, the researchers did not distinguish between weekdays and weekends in the 2020 sample, concluding that the children were essentially on “holiday schedule.”In other words, they were sleeping longer at night than the children in 2018 and, perhaps not surprisingly, sleeping less during the day; only 27.5 percent routinely took daytime naps, compared with 79.8 percent in 2018 (69.4 percent on weekends). It added up to about the same amount of sleep in a 24-hour period, and, interestingly, “somewhat unexpectedly,” as the researchers noted, the caregivers in 2020 reported fewer sleep disturbances. Daytime sleepiness, night wakings, bedtime resistance and sleep anxiety were all lower in the pandemic sample than in the 2018 group.

*RICHARD BRANSON’S TRAVEL EMPIRE IS CRUMBLING. ONLY SPACE AND HYPERLOOP CAN SAVE IT:

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to devastate the global travel industry, British billionaire Richard Branson‘s Virgin Group, whose business sprawls across cruises, hotels, airlines and trains, is being devastated from all angles. Increasingly, its long-shot space tourism and hyperloop businesses represent its last shreds of hope. Last week, Virgin’s flagship airline, Virgin Atlantic, filed for bankruptcy protection in the U.S. as the company raced to secure a $1.5 billion restructuring plan to maintain solvency. The airline has resumed passenger flight after months of service suspension due to COVID-19, but it doesn’t expect to turn a profit again until 2022. Three months earlier, Virgin Atlantic’s sister company, Virgin Australia, declared insolvency in Australia. The airline is currently undergoing a restructuring under its new private equity owner, Bain Capital.

*SCIENTISTS FIND STRONG, LASTING IMMUNITY ON COVID SURVIVORS:

Scientists who are studying immune responses to the novel coronavirus say there are encouraging signs of strong, lasting immunity after exposure, even in people who develop only mild symptoms of COVID-19. According to The New York Times, studies have shown that disease-fighting antibodies appear to stick around for months after infections have cleared up. “Things are really working as they’re supposed to,” said Deepta Bhattacharya, an immunologist at the University of Arizona and an author on one of the new studies, which has not yet been peer-reviewed. While protection against reinfection cannot be fully confirmed until there’s proof that most people who encounter the virus a second time are actually able to keep it at bay, Marion Pepper of the University of Washington, said: “This is exactly what you would hope for. All the pieces are there to have a totally protective immune response.” However, researchers can’t say how long these encouraging immune responses will last.

*ACCLAIMED ATTORNEY SCOTT LEVIN ‘CHIEF PEACEKEEPER’, SHARES THE BENEFITS OF MEDIATION OVER TRADITIONAL DIVORCE LITIGATION:

Since 2004, Scott Levin, a California native, husband, and father of three young children, has been practicing law. Having graduated with his law degree from the University of Virginia, he got his start as a family law litigator. Nearly a decade consisting of endless battles spent in court, Scott felt defeated and disillusioned by the inability of the common couple to achieve peaceful agreements. The first step of a litigation attorney when engaging a new client is to try to understand as many negative things about the other party as possible, according to Mr. Levin. While one spouse is busy digging up dirt on the other, you can be sure that the other party with their own attorney is doing exactly the same. When ample “dirt” is revealed, the proceedings will begin. This procedure is not only frustrating but also extremely lengthy; California’s typical court case is around 2 years in duration. This process can prove to be extremely toxic in many cases and both parties are forced to live in the past, constantly digging up bad memories, and unable to look forward to or achieve any real growth during this season. The situation becomes even more difficult when children are involved, as many parents struggle with the co-parent and exist amicably while the proceedings are still in motion.

Mr. Levin is known among his clients as the “Chief Peacekeeper.” In comparison to a litigation attorney, Scott does not represent one spouse, but instead enters into a relationship with both spouses with the intention of achieving an amicable arrangement, saving the assets, and ensuring the future of each party. After Mr. Levin and his female co-mediator have completed the initial meeting and decided that all sides are in a mutually beneficial match, Scott establishes a team with the spouses, stating that they are all on the same side from here on, to battle the challenges of divorces itself, not one another.

From here, Chief Peacekeeper Levin is willing to listen to the wishes and needs of both spouses to best help them come up with innovative solutions that will benefit both parties, protect the children, if applicable, and allow each spouse to prepare for their future. This process involves the division of all assets and debts, and the establishment of a parenting plan that addresses all co-parenting ins and outs. As a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA), Mr. Levin is highly knowledgeable in financial matters and is able to provide his clients with the best financial advice possible. Because of his incredible success and the impact his methods have had on the lives of countless couples and families, Scott rapidly became one of Southern California ‘s top mediation lawyers, though his services are available to clients across the nation.

Even though nothing can change the painful aspects of a divorce, the proceedings should not be mischievous, and the emotional distress prevented by finding an agreement quickly and comfortably cannot be priced at. Mr. Levin is hopeful for most people that reconciliation is feasible, and that they emerge from a divorce as supportive co-parents and even friends.

*EXAMINER – HEALTH: CAREFUL WITH THAT DONUT – PUTTING ON WEIGHT SLOWS BLOOD FLOW TO THE BRAIN, INCREASING ALZHEIMER’S

Health experts say around half of American adults are overweight or obese. While excessive body weight is linked to a number of serious health conditions, including diabetes and heart disease, a new study reveals it can also reduce blood flow to the brain. Researchers warn this can put overweight individuals at great risk for Alzheimer’s disease. The study examines brain blood flow in 17,721 adults between 18 and 94. To do this, researchers use a brain imaging technique known as single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). SPECT’s results showing the decrease in blood flow based on body mass.

SPECT is a technique in which doctors inject a radioactive tracer into a patient’s blood and then use a special camera to look at the flow of blood. Participants were then split into five categories: underweight, normal weight, overweight, obese, and morbidly obese — to examine blood flow in each of their brains. The brain scan data reveals lower blood flow across virtually all brain regions as body weight increases. These findings have important implications for learning and memory disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease. Low brain blood flow is a strong predictor of future Alzheimer’s cases. The study also finds particularly strong links between body weight and blood flow in several brain regions known to be affected by Alzheimer’s disease. These areas includes the temporal and parietal lobes, hippocampus, posterior cingulate gyrus, and precuneus.

Democratic California Sen. Kamala Harris co-sponsored a bill that would force public schools to allow biologically male athletes who identify as transgender on girls’ sports teams. Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden announced Harris as his running mate on Tuesday. *SHOCK- OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF BLACK AMERICANS SUPPORT CURRENT OR INCREASED POLICE PRESENCE:

Eighty-one percent of black Americans said they would prefer if police spend the same amount of time or more time in their neighborhoods, according to a Gallup survey released Wednesday. The survey, which also includes responses from other racial and ethnic groups, indicates that 20% of black respondents said they want an increased police presence, 61% want the same presence, and 19% want less. The support for current policing levels was fairly consistent across racial lines, with an average of 67% of Americans saying the current level of time police spend in their area is adequate. Asian American respondents expressed the greatest preference for decreasing police presence, with 28% favoring this option, the survey shows.

When asked how frequently they interact with police, 32% of black respondents said very often or often, compared with 28% of Hispanic respondents, 22% of white respondents, and 21% of Asian respondents, according to Gallup.  Among black respondents 39%, said that they were not too confident or not at all confident of receiving positive treatment, compared with 22% of Hispanic respondents, 22% of Asian respondents, and 9% of white respondents.  The survey is part of the Gallup Center on Black Voices, which is “devoted to studying and highlighting the experiences of more than 40 million Black Americans: tracking and reporting on progress on life outcomes and a life well-lived.”

Bill Gates continued his unbridled criticism of the United States’ response to the coronavirus pandemic on Sunday, calling America’s testing system “insanity” and stressing that the country was now facing “a pretty dramatic price” both in human death and wasted money. Gates said it takes far too long to receive coronavirus test results in the U.S. “You can’t get the federal government to improve the testing because they just want to say how great it is,” the Microsoft co-founder-turned-philanthropist said. “I’ve said to them, look, have a CDC website that prioritizes who gets tested. That’s trivial to do. They won’t pay attention to that. I’ve said don’t reimburse any tests where the result goes back after three days. You’re paying billions of dollars in this very inequitable way to get the most worthless test results of any country in the world.”

On the topic of America’s lockdowns, Gates pointed to countries in the European Union that faced the coronavirus outbreak earlier than the U.S. and instituted more coordinated lockdowns. “What’s impressive is that Italy, France, Spain ― who had a wave before us ― managed as they fell off to keep even the parts of the country that hadn’t had the intense epidemic from creating a second wave,” Gates said. ”In the case of the United States, they opened up their bars. They didn’t do much in the way of wearing masks. And so those areas became this second wave,” he added. Gates has pledged $1.6 billion to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, with $100 million going towards coronavirus vaccines. Most recently, he argued that the CDC’s COVID-19 response was “muzzled” by a White House that refused to offer proper leadership during a time of crisis.

*SURVEY PROVES LBN EXAMINER READERS, 18-29, IS MUCH BETTER INFORMED:

The rise of social media has changed the information landscape in myriad ways, including the manner in which many Americans keep up with current events. In fact, social media is now among the most common pathways where people – particularly young adults 18 – 29 – get their political news. A new Pew Research Center analysis of surveys conducted between October 2019 and June 2020 finds that those who rely most on social media for political news stand apart from other news consumers in a number of ways. These U.S. adults, for instance, tend to be less likely than other news consumers to closely follow major news stories, such as the coronavirus outbreak and the 2020 presidential election. And, perhaps tied to that, this group also tends to be less knowledgeable about these topics. In the same age range – 18 – 29 Examiner readers in all 50 of the United States and 26 foreign countries were “much better informed and much less likely to believe and share false narratives.”

*EXAMINER – HISTORY: 75 YEARS SINCE HIROSHIMA

August marks 75 years since the U.S. dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. It killed 80,000 people immediately and tens of thousands more in the aftermath.  The U.S. dropped another atomic bomb on Nagasaki three days later, Aug. 9. On Aug. 15, Japanese Emperor Hirohito announced his country’s unconditional surrender for WWII.  75 years later…global non-proliferation efforts are “in jeopardy,” GZERO Media writes. Russia and the U.S., which account for 90% of the world’s nuclear arsenal, are modernizing their programs, and the New START Treaty (focused on arms reduction) is teetering on the brink of failure.
